After a long winter hiatus, the trek reopens in early March as the trail comes back to life.  September to November is also the best time to visit Har Ki Dun trek. Avoid monsoon and winter seasons owing to unfavourable trekking conditions. Har Ki Dun remains inaccessible during the peak monsoon season in July and August. Post-monsoon season resumes in September and continues till November. Har Ki Dun is located inside Govind Pashu Vihar Sanctuary in Uttarkashi. Govind Pashu Vihar National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary where the trek is located remains shut to visitors during the winter months. 

If you wish to experience the charm of Har Ki Dun in winter, attempt the trek in the first week of December when the snow at higher reaches is manageable.
