A perfect weekend getaway, Triund Trek offers breathtaking views of the Dhauladhar Ranges. You will traverse pine and coniferous forests and witness rhododendrons bloom in full throttle during spring, painting the trail with vibrant shades. After navigating the steep trail for a few hours, you will hit the summit and encounter a fair share of breathtaking landscapes. Dhauladhar Ranges, enveloped in a white sheet of snow captivates your soul, freezing you for a moment.
Triund Trek is also known for magical sunsets and sunrises. While many prefer to do a roundtrip of the trek over a day, some prefer to camp for a night. The sunset you witness is magical as the sky bursts into hues of golden and spreads over the mountains. This surreal experience is further enhanced when you wake up to an enchanting sunrise peeking behind the snowcapped peaks.
Triund trek is attempted by people visiting Dharamshala or McLeodganj. It is an easy trek. You can complete the trek in a day or camp for a night at the top and soak in mesmerising summit views for a night.

Triund Trek starts from Dharamkot village, located 2 km from McLeodganj. The distance is if you opt to hike up to Dharamkot. The other option is to travel by taxi to Dharamkot. It takes roughly 20 minutes to cover a distance of around 6.2 km. Triund Trek is also accessible from Bhagsu Village near McLeodganj.
Start early from the base and hike on a trail covered with pine and oak trees. As you start your trek, Dhauladhar plays hide and seek with you throughout the trail. The trek follows an easy path and soon turns into undulated terrain, and you will navigate a fair share of steep ascents.
There are a few dhabas and makeshift cafes on your way to the top. You can buy food and packaged water here. If you plan to camp here for a night bring your tent and other equipment like a sleeping bag, a liner, and a foam mat that can be used as a base layer. The other option is to rent a tent at the top. Your chance at tented accommodation depends on its availability. Weekends witness a huge crowd on the trek.

Follow the same route to descend to the base camp in Dharamkot. This is if you decide to camp for a night at the top. Triund Trek can be completed in a day. If you want to finish the trek in a day, start early from Dharamkot. Attempt to cover the maximum distance before the sun becomes harsh. Descend to the base by evening, preferably before sunset.
The base camp of Triund Trek is Dharmkot, around 2 km on foot from Macleodganj. Dharamkot is a sleepy village, frequented by people who prefer a quaint getaway amidst nature. To reach the base camp in Dharamkot, you must plan your travel to Macleodganj.

Travel Option A – Fly to Gaggal Airport in Dharamshala
Gaggal Airport in Dharamshala is the nearest Airport to Macleodganj. The distance between an airport and Macleodganj is roughly 22 km. Once you reach the airport, you can directly reach Dharamkot in a taxi or spend a few days exploring Macleodganj. You can fly to Gaggal from various cities on a connecting flight. A direct 1.45-hour flight from Delhi to Gaggal costs around 5k or more.
The railway connectivity to Himachal Pradesh is limited. The nearest major railway station is Pathankot, roughly 90 km from Macleodganj. If you plan to travel by train, book a train to Pathankot and travel by road from here. You will easily find taxis, buses and shared cabs plying towards Macleodganj. It takes 3 to 4 hours to reach Macleodganj from Pathankot.
Macleodganj is around 495 km from Delhi. It takes roughly 11 to 12 hours to reach Macleodganj from Delhi by road. You can either drive or travel by bus to the base camp. The bus will drop you at Macleodganj. You can hire a taxi from here to Dharamkot.

Triund Trek temperature ranges between 16°C to 24°C during the day in summer. Night remains colder than the day and you will experience temperatures between 7°C to 5°C. Autumn season experiences lower temperatures. Expect 12°Cto 18°C during the night. Night temperature drops to a minimum of 1°C.
The best time to visit Triund Trek is from March to June and September to November. Avoid the peak monsoon season between July to August. If you prefer cold weather you can attempt this trek in winter months.

The most important thing to do on a trek to avoid AMS is to drink water, more than your daily intake. Water is an excellent way to avoid AMS. Along with this, you should also have all the nutritious meals we provide on the trek. If you still are sceptical about getting AMS, we would advise you to carry Diamox tablets with you. However, according to the situation your Outdoor leader will advise whether or not you should take it.

Although we provide filling breakfast, lunch, and dinner along with morning tea and evening snacks, you can carry some light snacks for munching on the trail. You can carry protein bars, dry fruits, and homemade snacks like Shakkarpara to help you give that extra energy on the trek.
All our Outdoor Leaders are trained and experienced leaders. They have completed basic Mountaineering Course, and are equipped with basic first-aid knowledge. Our leaders are certified Wilderness First Responder course
Pack a comprehensive first aid kit to handle any unforeseen situation or emergency.
You can carry your tent. The other option is to book a tent at the top through the local agents/companies. If you reach the top in the afternoon, there will be sufficient options available for you to choose from. However, book your stay in advance to avoid last-minute hassle.
Yes. Communicate your requirement to the trek leaders beforehand, as it will be difficult to arrange to offload at the last minute. The offloading charges will be Rs 350 per bag, and your bag should not weigh more than 9 kg.
Note: At OWLs, we suggest our participants carry their backpacks and avoid offloading. However, in case of pressing circumstances, you can opt for offloading.
Yes, you can leave the extra luggage at the base camp. However, do not leave valuables like laptops, jewellery, or any other expensive items in the base camp.
There are no toilet or washroom facilities on the trek. You can carry a shovel to dig a dry pit if you are camping for a night.
You will find small cafes and eating joints along the way. At the top, some cafes serve full-fledged meals. Most of these cafes serve Maggi and eggs. You can also look for a cafe that serves Parathas or Dal Chawal.
Try to reach the top in the afternoon to avail options for a comfortable stay and a healthy nutritious meal.
Triund Trek offers limited mobile network coverage. You will have access to a scanty network on some parts of the trail, however, expect no network at the top.
