Kheerganga trek in Himachal Pradesh is one of the most popular treks. A wealth of picturesque landscapes and a scenic forest trail fueled by an easy trail make it a popular hiking destination. Nestled deep inside Parvati Valley, the trail to Kheerganga trek takes you along the gushing Parvati River. The trek derives its name from the white milky water of river Parvati meandering through the valley. 

Apart from the scenic landscapes, Kheerganga trek is a well-known spiritual location. The place is home to many temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. Locals believe that Lord Shiva blessed this place with his meditation for years. As it is believed to be the holy place and home to the revered Lord Shiva, the trail is frequented by people seeking adventure and spiritual escape. 

Kheerganga offers majestic sunsets and breathtaking photo opportunities for an easy trek that requires no prior trekking experience. The trek begins from Barshaini village, near Kasol and can be completed in two days. 


Kheerganga Trek Itinerary

Day 1 : Barshaini to Kheerganga

Distance – 7 km  | Time Taken – 6 hrs

The trek starts from Barshaini and takes 5 to 6 hours to reach Kheerganga Campsite. Along the way, you will be mesmerised by passing through the lush green forest trail. The Gushing River Parvati keeps you company, and you can splash some water on the way to Rudra Nag waterfall. Remember to take a holy dip at the natural hot spring of Parvati Kund. 

Kheerganga Trek route traverses scenic hamlets where snow-capped mountains play hide and seek along the way. The tranquil bliss of Parvati Valley is perfect for immersing yourself in picturesque landscapes. 

Day 2 : Kheerganga to Barshaini 

Distance – 7 Kms | Time Taken – 5 hours 

You can return to the base after your breakfast. Take time to soak in the breathtaking landscapes around you. 

The trail follows the same route. It takes around 5 hours to descend to the starting point at Barshaini. Once you reach the base, you can explore the surrounding village of Tosh or return to Kasol. 

How to reach the basecamp of Kheerganga Trek

🚉 Nearest Railway Station – Joginder Nagar

The starting point of Kheerganga Trek is Barsahini, around 31 km from Kasol. Barshaini, the starting point of the trek is roughly 6 km from Kasol. 

Here are a few travel options to consider to reach the starting point of Kheerganga Trek. 

By Air to Chandigarh/ Kullu Airport 

The fastest mode of transportation to reach Kasol is to fly to Kullu Airport in Bhuntar, located around 31 km from Kasol. You can fly from Delhi to Kullu Airport in 1.5 hrs. However, you will have limited flight options due to the low frequency of flights on this route. 

Another option is to fly to Mohali Aiport, Chandigarh, followed by a road journey to Kasol. Kasol is around 300 km from Chandigarh. You can easily board a bus or taxi from Chandigarh to reach Kasol. It takes around 6 to 8 hours to reach Kasol from Chandigarh. 

By Train to Joginder Nagar followed by a road journey to Kasol

Kasol is not connected by rail with other cities. The nearest station is located at Joginder Nagar. You can board a train to Joginder Nagar and hire a cab/taxi to Kasol. It takes 3 to 4 hours to cover the distance of 144 km. 

By Road 

Kasol is around 531 km from Delhi. It takes roughly 11 to 12 hours to reach Kasol from Delhi by road. You can either drive to Kasol or travel by bus to Kullu. The bus will drop you at Kullu. From here, you can hire a cab to Kasol.

What kind of arrangement is available for accommodation on Kheerganga trek?

You can carry your tent. The other option is to book a tent at the top through local agents/companies. If you reach the top in the afternoon, there will be sufficient options available for you to choose from. However, book your stay in advance to avoid last-minute hassle. 


What will be the toilet facilities on the trek?

Many organizations that manage your tent/stay will have common washroom facilities. 

What will be the food arrangement on the trek?

You will find small cafes and eating joints along the way. At the top, some cafes serve full-fledged meals. Most of these cafes serve Maggi and eggs. You can also look for a cafe that serves Parathas or Dal Chawal. 

Try to reach the top in the afternoon to avail options for a comfortable stay and a healthy nutritious meal. 

What will be the status of the mobile network on the trek?

Kheerganga Trek offers limited mobile network coverage. Kasol is the last place with a mobile network. 

Are there any ATMs at the base camp?

Kasol is the nearest place with an ATM. 

Carry a sufficient amount of cash. While Kasol has an ATM, it usually remains out of service. Since the base camp is situated away from the cities and lacks basic facilities like ATMs and digital payment options, it is always better to be prepared.

Will there be hot water facilities?

We recommend our trekkers drink water from natural sources when acclimatising to the mountain temperature and altitude. Many campsites available at Kheerganga offer hot water facilities. You can make a special request.
